Douglas was the son of Hugh and Sarah Ann Robertson. He had two sisters; Eliza Ann and Rachel Hannah Robertson. They lived at Westfield House, Jarrow with their two servants Cecilia McMullan and Lizzie Jane Jones.
Douglas was a dental student at the time of the 1911 census.
Douglas died of his wounds on 26th September 1916 aged 26 during the Battle of the Somme.
Douglas is buried in the Warloy-Baillon Communal Cemetery Extension, Somme, France.
