Cecil, commonly known as Carsie, was the son of Horsley, a general cartman, and Margaret Walton. His father was a widower according to the 1911 census. Cecil had three siblings, Sarah, Horsley and Joseph. Before the war Cecil was a grocer assistant, while his sister Sarah was a hotel keeper, his brother Horsley was a house painter and Joseph was a law clerk. Cecil died on 24th October 1917 aged 24 in France.
Cecil is buried in the Longuenesse (St. Omer) Souvenir Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France.
